Power Block
Do I need a fused power block when wiring two amps?
or can I use a regular power block I already have a 200 amp anl fuse on the 4ga power wire close to the battery I have a 1200 watt amp for the subs and a 400 watt amp for the 6by9s also is it ok to use a ground block to connect both amps to one ground?
You’re correct in your assumptions. As long as you have a fuse on the main power cable near the battery that is no less than the combined fused ratings of your two amps, it’s completely OK. Using a ground block is standard practice.
However, you can run into noise problems. It has happened. It happens because the ground cable may be too long, and introduces noise in to the system. Try it first though. If you find a noise, just remove the ground block, and install two separate shorter grounds.
The only problem I see in your setup, is you may want to look into upgrading your power/ground cable. 4ga is a little small for the power you intend to run. May I suggest a 2ga or 0ga power kit. That 1200 watt amp will to have at least 4ga input.
Also, look into upgrading the wire in under the hood. Upgrading your alternator to battery, battery ground, and engine ground to bigger wire, will help increase current and stabilize the electrical system. It will also help to prevent your headlights from dimming.
